Justice Centered Healthy Mobilities
The Justice Centered Healthy Mobilities (JCHM) research group plans to collaborate with youth from the Boston neighborhood of Mattapan on issues related to transportation. By working and learning together, we hope to center the next generation’s voices in mobility planning. For Saturdays across 4 months, we sat down with 3-5 teenagers from the Mattapan community to talk to them about the built environment and transportation system in Boston. Specifically, we focused on the recently-enacted Blue Hill Avenue Transportation Plan. Together, we talked about the various forces that have come to shape both Blue Hill Avenue and the neighborhood Mattapan, as well as those that are currently reconfiguring. We attempted to evaluate these different topics through the lens of racial justice.
