Community Transportation Acts Archive

How might residents with mobility challenges in Maine advance their communities’
transportation goals through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA)? This project 
seeks to address this question by documenting how underrepresented communities in Maine
—including older adults, people with disabilities, and people of color—have influenced the
formation and allocation of federal transportation funding in the past, as well as the barriers
for doing so, and determine whether these avenues/barriers are still open/present for
underrepresented groups today. The goal is to archive these actions together—ideally
through community primary sources—and thereby create a counter narrative of Community
Transportation Acts that will make the history of transportation planning more complete and
inspire similar community-driven transportation planning efforts today in relation to the
IIJA.
