Alejandra A Martinez
Alejandra holds a B.A. in Economics and a minor in Urban and Regional Studies from UCLA and is currently a first-year Master of City Planning candidate at MIT. Her exploration of visual art and collective memory work in her immigrant community deeply influence her approach to understanding local planning issues and drives her commitment to develop community development methods and design interventions that promote solidarity, prosperity and counter displacement.
As the founder of the SELA Community Map and resident of Southeast Los Angeles, she is dedicated to preserving and uplifting collective memories of Southeast LA's built environment. At MIT, she plans to continue exploring the intersection of collective memory, community development, and participatory planning processes to increase her community's' autonomy in development.
